Borås is a cultural city in constant development. The Cultural Administration works with and is responsible for a large part of the cultural offerings. We are responsible for the Libraries in Borås, Borås Art Museum, the Culture School, the Textile Museum, Borås Museum, Borås City Theatre, and Public meetings with Bio Röda Kvarn. Here, over 220 people work to enrich the lives of Borås residents.

The cultural historical museums in Borås are the joint museum organization for the Textile Museum and Borås Museum. We are part of Borås City's Cultural Administration. The Textile Museum is a leading museum in textiles and a meeting place for everyone who wants to experience textiles in various forms, such as fashion and design, crafts, and industrial history. Borås Museum is the city's outdoor museum and is open seasonally during the summer.

In total, approximately 18 full-time equivalents work in the organization. There are also friend associations and volunteers associated with the operations. Everyone contributes together to the goals of the organization.

Museum Technician for the Cultural Historical Museums in Borås

Job Responsibilities

As a museum technician, you will have tasks related to the daily and long-term operations of the organization. You will participate in the exhibition productions of the Textile Museum and Borås Museum together with other museum staff, as well as in the work with the museum's collections in our storage. You will handle contacts regarding the properties at Borås Museum. Some work with building preservation may be included in the position in addition to carpentry related to exhibitions.

We produce approximately five larger exhibitions and several smaller pop-up exhibitions each year. In addition, various public events involving museum technicians are carried out. You will be part of a team of three technicians who work closely together. The technicians have significant responsibility for their processes: planning, production, and reporting directly to the responsible colleague.

Collaboration with other functions at the museum, such as collections, front desk, and educators, is crucial for a good result and a positive work environment. Good hospitality and interaction with our visitors are an important part of the daily work.

Your responsibilities will include daily maintenance of premises, event preparations, support for work in the museums' collections and archives, as well as collaborations with many external parties and our volunteers. You will work closely with external property technicians, suppliers, electricians, etc., who visit the operations for service.

You will belong to the Cultural Heritage and Collection unit. Scheduled weekend and evening work is included.

Qualifications

You have relevant education and work experience related to the role of museum technician and preferably an interest in the museum's areas of activity. Knowledge in carpentry and lighting is an advantage. It is also positive if you have experience working in areas such as art, culture, or museum operations.

We want our new colleague to be task-oriented and organized, outgoing and proactive, and to have an easy time collaborating and building good relationships. You enjoy working with and for the museum's visitors together with your colleagues. You are used to and can handle workdays that contain many different tasks, even at short notice.

Please describe any technical production areas you have expertise in, such as sound, IT, disaster preparedness, or various crafts. A B driver's license is a requirement. It is a plus if you also have certification for forklifts and lifts.
